Since the pioneering work of Hans Selye (The stress of the life, 1956), stress has been conceptualized as an experience (or a set of them) whose demand is excessive in relation to the individual's resources. Thus, we have considered the physical working environment, the contents of the position, role performance, interpersonal relationships, career development, new technologies, links between work and family, repetitive routines and monotonous, the pace of work determined by the machines, the workload or excessive responsibility, inadequate requirements in relation to the worker's ability, professional dissatisfaction, working hours, conditions, the contents of the task, lack of participation in decisions about the ways of performing tasks, job insecurity, social isolation. The signs and indicators of stress include: irritation, worry, tension, depression, psychosomatic complaints, general feeling of dissatisfaction with life, low self-esteem, depression, disturbances of attention, perception, features cognitive and motor skills, boredom, poor performance, absenteeism.
